If you think you have a migraine coming or you tend to suffer from a lot of them, you can avoid getting a migraine. While there is no guarantee that you will not suffer from a migraine, you may be able to reduce its severity.

Let’s take a look at some tips that can help you to stave off a migraine:

Find Somewhere Quiet

Find somewhere quiet to spend a bit of time. Take a break from whatever you are doing and relax if you can. Switch the lights off, shut the blinds, and relax. If you can get some sleep, do. Sometimes the only thing you can do is to sleep an impending migraine off.

If you look for help with migraines, one of the first things you may be told to do is find somewhere quiet and sleep.

Rest as Much as You Can

Although we have already talked about sleeping if you can, you also need to rest as much as you can. Migraines can be very draining and the best thing you can do is rest. You don’t have to stay in bed all day, simply take things a little easier if you can. Sometimes migraines can be triggered by someone not getting enough rest.

Rest when you can and you’re more likely to recover quicker.

Keep an Eye on Your Diet

Your diet can have a huge impact on your susceptibility to migraines. For example, some people may find that caffeine, chocolate, or cheese brings on a migraine. Alcohol can also be a trigger. So, if you think you have a migraine coming, be sure to avoid these foods.

Try not to skip meals as doing so can increase the risk of a migraine attack. Keep a food journal if you can so you know what foods trigger a migraine.

Manage Your Stress Levels

Knowing how to manage your stress levels can have an impact on your health. While it is impossible for you to avoid stress every day, reducing the stressors in your life can help.

Try not to be too busy, and make sure that you take a break now and again. Make sure you give yourself time to do the things that you enjoy.  If you find yourself getting stressed, do some deep breathing exercises. Sometimes just taking a few moments to manage your breathing can make all of the difference.

Exercise Frequently

Regular exercise can help you to reduce the risk of a migraine. Regular exercise encourages your body to release chemicals that can help to reduce anxiety and depression. This is what you need as anxiety and depression can make migraines worse.

Keep a Diary

Finally, you may want to consider keeping a diary. Make a note of what you were doing when you started getting a migraine. Did you eat anything that could trigger it? Were you stressed? How well did you sleep last night? Making a note of all of these things can help you to spot patterns.

Use the above tips to help you to avoid getting a migraine. If you struggle to avoid migraines please speak to your doctor.
