How to cook a leg of lamb in the air fryer

Cooking lamb leg in the air fryer is a great way to prepare this delicious dish without heating up your entire kitchen. It’s also an easy, hands-off method that requires little clean-up.

Steps by Step guide on how to cook a leg of lamb in an air fryer:

Preparation:

1. Start by preheating your air fryer to 400 degrees F, or follow the home-use manufacturer’s instructions for setting the temperature.

2. Season the lamb with kosher salt and freshly cracked pepper on both sides of the meat. Be generous with the seasoning! The outside of your leg will become crispy because it’s in contact with hot air inside your best air fryer 2022, so you only need very little seasoning on that portion of the lamb leg.

3. Add two tablespoons of vegetable oil to a large cast-iron skillet and place over medium heat until shimmering hot but not smoking (medium-high). Gently place your seasoned lamb into the pan and sear for about 5 minutes per side (reduce the cooking time by 5 minutes for each side if you like your lamb medium-rare or pink in the center).

4. Transfer the seared leg of lamb to a wire rack set on top of a foil-lined baking sheet, then place it into your preheated air fryer basket and allow to cook for 10 minutes per pound. I have an XL 6-quart Breville, so my 6-pound leg of lamb needed 60 minutes in the air fryer.

5. After 10 minutes at 400 degrees F, remove the lamb from the basket and insert an instant-read thermometer into the thickest part of the meat behind one of the shanks or in between two ribs, but not touching any bone. The lamb leg is ready to serve when the temperature reaches 130 degrees F for medium-rare.

6. Allow resting 5-10 minutes before carving and serving with a simple sauce or your favorite gravy!

FAQS:

How long will it take to cook a leg of lamb?

It typically takes about 15 minutes per pound for boneless legs of lamb, or about 20 minutes per pound for bone-in legs of lamb.

What temperature do you cook a leg of lamb at?

For best results, I recommend cooking your leg of lamb at 400 degrees F.

How do I know if a leg of lamb is done?

The outside of your leg will become crispy because it’s in contact with hot air inside your air fryer, so you only need very little seasoning on that portion of the lamb leg. Insert an instant-read thermometer into the thickest part of the meat behind one of the shanks or in between two ribs, but not touching any bone. The lamb leg is ready to serve when the temperature reaches 130 degrees F for medium-rare.

What are the best cuts of lamb to use for a leg of lamb?

I recommend bone-in or boneless shank, neck, butt, shoulder, loin, sirloin, flank, and rib. The round can also be used, but I don’t recommend it because it’s leaner than the other cuts which results in drier meat.

How long does a leg of lamb need to rest before you serve it?

The leg of lamb should rest at least 15 minutes after cooking to allow juices to redistribute throughout the meat.
