How to Throw an Awesome St. Patrick's Day Party

Did you know the story of Saint Patrick is from over 1,000 years ago? When he died, his death date became a national holiday that is now celebrated in major cities all over the world.

If you’re like many people, you might be planning your own celebration at home for Match 17th!

It can be hard to plan for party themes, especially if you’re not someone that usually hosts events for your loved ones. Luckily, however, a St. Patrick’s Day party is one of the easiest types of parties to plan because there are so many things that you can do!

Keep reading to get some basic party ideas for St. Patrick’s Day.

Plan Your Drink Menu

Ireland is known for its beer and whiskey, so you’ll want to have some of these available for your guests. Irish beers, Irish whiskeys, and St. Patrick’s Day-themed shots provide plenty of options.

It may be a smart idea to plan some non-alcoholic drinks for the menu as well so that guests aren’t overindulging. This way, guests that don’t want to drink alcohol will still have fun drink options to choose from.

Don’t Forget the Food

When thinking about what a great party needs, you can’t forget the food.

Serving traditional Irish cuisine is a great idea for anyone that wants to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. These dishes, including corned beef, stew pie, or Irish soda bread, will be a hit with your guests.

You could also have plenty of snack foods available if you’re not planning to do an entire meal.

Put up Some Fun Decorations

You can make DIY crafts to put up around your home to make this part easy (and more fun!). For instance, buy some plastic cauldrons and paint them gold. You can fill them with chocolate coins and use them as centerpieces.

Another idea is a rainbow-colored balloon arch that is leading into a “pot of gold.”

You could cut out shamrocks from construction paper to hang on the walls, buy green and white streamers to hang around the ceilings, or even get a pre-arranged pack of St. Patrick’s Day decorations if you don’t have much time.

Plan Activities or Party Games

To make sure that your guests have fun, you might want to set up a photo booth and get some St. Patrick’s Day music queued up.

Some ideas for games that might be fun include:

  • St. Patrick’s Day-themed Bingo
  • Shamrock tic-tac-toe
  • Coin or shamrock memory matching game
  • Pot o’ gold coin toss
  • Leprechaun-themed treasure hunt

Remember to have options available for all ages that will be at your party! You don’t want adults or children to miss out on the fun because there weren’t enough age-appropriate games planned out ahead of time.
