‘Kathu Shrine’ or ‘Lai Thu Tao Bo Keng’ is believed to be the origin of the famous vegetarian festival in Phuket. The legend says the mining industry has brought tons of Chinese labourers to Kathu, as well as a troupe of Chinese opera coming to perform in the district.
