Vaping is the act of huffing or inhaling vapor from a vaporizer or electronic cigarette. It is a safer alternative to conventional smoking. A significant determinant of your vaping experience is the e-liquid. The liquid is responsible for the overall flavor and quantity of the vapor from the e-cigarette.
What is e-liquid?
E-liquid is the fluid used to fuel vaping devices. It provides the nicotine and flavor of the entire vaping experience. It is sometimes known as e-juice or vape liquid. While vaping, the juice gets heated with the vape coil inside the atomizer to create vapor. This is the vapor you inhale during the vaping act.
E-liquids are usually made up of four primary ingredients. These are:
. Propylene Glycol (PG): this is a viscous, colorless liquid with a faintly sweet taste. It is used in vaping to form the base of the e-liquid.
. Vegetable Glycerin (VG): this is a colorless, viscous organic compound that acts as a diluent or filler for nicotine. Together with the PG, this component creates the base of the liquid. Most e-liquids contain an equal VG to PG ratio. Some may contain one of the two (PG and VG) instead of both.
. Nicotine: e-liquids are usually made up of a small amount of nicotine. The lower nicotine strength helps soothe the craving for nicotine for past smokers. Note that the nicotine amount may vary from one brand of e-liquid to the next. Some e-liquids are entirely nicotine-free.
. Flavor: e-liquid manufacturers use food-grade flavors for their products. However, the quality may differ from one manufacturer to the next.
Various e-liquid strengths
The term “e-liquid strength” refers to the amount of nicotine present in the juice. Below are the five primary strength levels for e-liquids;
. None- this is where the liquid contains 0mg nicotine
. Extra light- this is where the juice contains 6mg worth of nicotine
. Light- this is where the fluid contains around 12 mg worth of nicotine
. Regular- here, the juice is made up of 18 mg worth of nicotine
. High- this is the highest e-liquid strength. It is typically made up of around 24 mg worth of nicotine.
Are e-liquids safe?
Most e-liquids are safe. Their safety can be attributed to the types of ingredients used to make the products. Therefore, the safety of the product may differ from one manufacturer to the next. For instance, e-liquids with a higher VG ratio than PG are believed to be safer.
Additionally, e-liquids are considered to be safe because they contain food-grade flavors. The quality of the flavors directly influences the safety of the e-liquid. Finally, the amount of nicotine in the juice also determines its healthfulness. The lower the nicotine level, the safer the liquid. It is also worth mentioning that the quality of the ingredients used plays a massive role in the safety of the juice. Therefore, e-liquids with high-quality flavors and ingredients are often safer than the latter.
Note that the quality of your e-liquid can either make or break your vaping experience. Therefore, understanding the basics mentioned above will guide you to choose the best e-liquid. For instance, you will be able to choose the right e-juice makeup for your needs. However, you must also consider the type of device you are using when picking the right e-liquid.
