What States Offer BetMGM?
The online sportsbook from BetMGM originated in the state of Nevada. Since the US overturned PASPA, legalizing online sports betting, the platform has expanded into a number of other states, with more expected in the future. There are currently eight states where it is legal to place wagers with BetMGM.
New Jersey
BetMGM was only the second online sportsbook to launch in the state of New Jersey. It originally went live under the name PlayMGM but has since been re-branded as BetMGM.
Colorado
May 2020 saw the launch of BetMGM in Colorado. Residents of the state can now get up to $1,000 in risk-free betting when they sign up for an account.
New York
New York State is the newest state added to the BetMGM family in January 2022. It’s so new that the New York BetMGM page hasn’t gone live yet, but the site will go live in the latter half of January. As an incentive, New Yorkers can sign up for an account now and get exclusive pre-launch offers using a Betmgm New York bonus code.
West Virginia
BetMGM has been operational in West Virginia since December 2018. Thanks to a partnership with Greenbrier, West Virginia is now home to one of the largest casino operators in the world, running an online sportsbook.
The other States Where You Can Use BetMGM
In addition to those listed above, BetMGM is accessible to Indiana, Nevada, Arizona, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee residents.
In Which States is Online Sports Betting Legal?
The federal government lifted the ban on sports betting over three years ago, but that doesn’t make it legal in all 50 states. The ban allows individual states to pass laws allowing online sports betting if they wish to do so. While there has been recent action taken to change the US’s voting laws and bill process, this is the current status quo. So far, sports betting is legal in over two dozen states, but only a handful allow betting to take place online.
Ten states currently allow in-person sportsbooks but no online betting, including Arkansas, Delaware, Mississippi, Montana, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Washington. Twelve states have full mobile betting, two allow mobile betting but require sign-up to be done in person (Illinois and Nevada), while six have limited mobile betting options. This leaves 20 states where sports betting is still illegal, some of which have had legislation vetoed in some form or other. Louisiana and New York will launch online betting in January 2022, and Connecticut will go live in October 2021.
Four states have approved bills legalizing online sports betting and are awaiting regulatory action. Ohio, Maryland, Nebraska, and Wisconsin can expect to see online sportsbooks soon. Nine states have no movement towards legalizing sports betting at all. These include Alaska, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Minnesota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas, and Utah. Utah, in particular, isn’t expected to see legal sports betting anytime soon due to the extensive influence of the Mormon church.
Final Thoughts
BetMGM is currently available to residents in nine out of ten states where online sports betting is legal. As more states legalize the use of online sportsbooks, you can expect to see this gambling supergiant expand throughout the country. BetMGM offers some of the best promotions and game variations of any sportsbook in the country.
