Leather couch have been around for what seems like forever. Still, that does not mean they are in every house in your neighborhood. The world has developed numerous techniques to create microfiber couches, cotton couches, nylon couches, and so on.

Why? Well, like most things, this was in an effort to save money. For example, cotton couches are one of the most cost-efficient sofas around. Cotton in general is pretty inexpensive, hence why almost 75% of your shirts are made out of cotton, but that is beyond the point.

When To First Clean A Leather Couch?

What the point is, is that leather couches have become more of a luxury than a common fixture in the home. In turn, this has created a knowledge gap that many may not be aware of.

In order to keep your home as clean as can be, you will need to clean your couch. No one wants their couch to be smelling all gross and sweaty, carrying around more bacteria than a toilet seat, but the aforementioned knowledge gap has people waiting to clean their couches. Not many people know how to clean certain fabrics, let alone leather!

So, with this being the case, where do you start? First and foremost, you need to know the type of couch you own. Like previously mentioned, a majority of sofas out in the world today are made up of cotton, microfibre, and other fabric types, still, leather couches have yet to leave the station.

It is hard to imagine that leather couches will ever go out of style. Still, maintaining and keeping a leather couch clean can be much more difficult to manage compared to a couch made up of fabric. For instance, Buffalo Jackson Trading Co. points out that, “When leather gets wet, the oils in the leather bind to the water molecules. As the water dries and evaporates, it draws out the oils with it. The leather’s loss of natural oils causes it to lose its supple quality and turn brittle.”

There are numerous guides out there that show how to use soap and water to properly clean your leather couch, but do you really want to risk the chance of messing your couch up? That is why a couch cleaning service is the best avenue to go down.

Still, the question remains: when are you first supposed to clean your leather couch? The answer is not so simple. It is recommended that you wipe down your leather couch 1-2 times awake to avoid any build-up of germs and bacteria. But, when it comes to deep cleaning your couch, it is recommended that you “. . .use a conditioner every 6-12 months and wipe up spills as they occur with a clean cloth.”

Whatever you decide, the point remains that you need to keep your couch clean. Whether it is leather, cotton, or microfiber, it is essential to keep one of the most frequently used pieces of furniture clean for both you, your living mates and any friends.
