5 Ways to Deal With Pain in the Neck

2. Visit a Physical Therapist

Sometimes the best way to deal with neck pain is by visiting a trained professional. A certified physical therapist knows all the proper techniques, so you can guarantee you’ll come out a new person. But, of course, the treatment isn’t a one-time deal, so you’ll need to visit the physical therapist several times before you can truly feel relieved.

3. Swim as Much as You Can

Many people mistakenly do strenuous exercise when they have neck and shoulder pain, but in reality, it only worsens the pain. Fortunately, swimming is a great low-impact exercise, which reduces stress on your spine. Additionally, swimming in warm water can reduce the inflammation.

4. Change Your Chair

Unfortunately, most people who work on computers sit in chairs that provide no neck support. As you can imagine, this will cause severe pain over time, especially if you work six or eight hours shifts. So, if possible, try to get an office chair that provides lumbar and neck support.

Additionally, you could get a standing desk since standing leads to a more natural position and prevents you from hunching forward and hurting your neck.

5. Stretch Often

Whenever you remain stationary, your body stiffens, which causes your muscles to become rigid. That’s why you’ll want to practice slow range-of-motion stretches during the day to reduce neck pain. For example, rolling your shoulders at least five minutes every couple of hours can reduce neck and shoulder pain.
