As the weather cools down, many pests will be looking for a warm place to spend the winter, which isn’t ideal if you’re not a fan of creepy crawlies! Here are nine ways to keep them from nesting in your home:

Keep your kitchen clean
Wipe up spills immediately, don’t let dishes pile up in the sink, and take out the trash regularly. All these things will attract pests, so by keeping your kitchen clean you’ll make it less inviting to them.
Store food properly
You should always store food in sealed containers, and if possible, in the fridge or freezer. This will help keep pests away from your food and prevent them from getting into your house in the first place.
Repair cracked seals around windows and doors
Be sure to check all the seals around your windows and doors, both inside and out. If you find any cracks or holes, seal them up with caulk or weatherstripping to prevent pests from getting in.
Keep your yard clean
Don’t let leaves and other debris accumulate in your yard – this is a perfect hiding place for pests like rodents and insects. Regularly rake up leaves, trim back overgrown vegetation, and remove any rotting wood from your property.
Get rid of standing water
Mosquitoes can lay their eggs in as little as a tablespoon of water, so it’s important to get rid of any standing water on your property where they could breed. This includes stagnant pools, bird baths, clogged rain gutters, and anything else that might hold water.
Use door sweeps and screens
Look for security doors in Canberra that will prevent bugs and rodents from coming inside, and repair or replace any ripped screens on doors and windows. This is especially important in autumn, when insects are looking for places to live over winter before it gets too cold outside.
Plug up rodent entry points
Rodents can squeeze through incredibly small spaces – even an opening as small as a coin can let them into your house! Be sure to fill or seal any cracks and holes on the outside of your home, especially around pipes and wiring where they’re most likely to try to get in from outside.
Keep sources of food sealed
In addition to keeping food stored properly in containers, you should also make sure that any pet food is kept sealed away when not in use so that pests can’t access it easily.
Inspect second-hand furniture before bringing it inside
Any time you bring second-hand furniture into your home (including things like used mattresses), be sure to inspect it carefully for bedbugs or other pests first.
If you take these precautions against pests this winter, you’ll be much less likely to have visitors you don’t want in your home!
