For instance, Hero MotoCorp partnered with Ather Energy in December 2023, to roll out a common fast-charging network in India. Under this collaboration, EV users will have easy access to VIDA and Ather Grids, with 100 cities and over 1900 fast-charging locations. 

Swappable Battery Technology 

Another innovation is battery swapping, that eliminates away the charging time almost altogether. Rather than waiting for charging, riders can exchange their exhausted battery for a fully charged one in seconds. Battery swapping is another innovation that renders charging time useless. Rather than waiting for a recharger, riders can exchange their depleted battery for a fresh one in seconds. For example, Gogoro pioneered battery-swapping stations in Taiwan in December 2023 and is expanding to India and Southeast Asia.  

Additionally, the Gogoro Network in Taiwan has nearly 0.6 million riders and more than 1.3 million smart batteries in use within its network of 12,000 battery swapping stations placed at over 2,500 locations.  

According to recent news, by Bounce Infinity, asserted that it has introduced a swap-based electric scooter variant, where users can choose to subscribe to a battery plan rather than purchasing a battery. This strategy makes EV adoption more convenient and cost-effective for daily commuters.  

Solid-State Batteries 

Solid-state batteries turn the EV business around with high-speed charging, extended battery life, and higher safety levels. Solid-state batteries are also unique in being capable of high-capacity charge delivery in reduced duration. For instance, Honda in November 2024 releases solid-state battery technology and hopes to put it into commercial use in a matter of years. Their research can potentially bring massive improvements in range and efficiency for electric two-wheelers.  

Additionally, Samsung SDI and Toyota partnered, promising ultra-fast-charging batteries future in two-wheelers. This partnership, seeks to include a 750-mile range in travel with fast 10-minute charging time with these batteries. These firms are spending a lot on R&D to launch solid-state batteries into the market shortly  

Future Opportunities in Fast Charging for Two-Wheelers  

Wireless Fast Charging 

Wireless charging technology can revolutionize electric scooter recharging. Though in its infancy, companies like WiTricity and Electreon are developing inductive charging pads that could allow real time wireless recharging of electric two-wheelers. This could make a huge difference to ease and efficiency for consumers. WiTricity and Electreon are working on inductive electric vehicle charging pads. WiTricity wireless charging systems provide hassle-free, efficient, and safe charging without plugging them in. Electreon’s wireless charging technology enables electric vehicles to charge while being parked, idling or moving, thereby lowering the demand for large batteries and levelling the electricity curve.  

Government and Private Sector Collaborations 

Several governments are investing in the infrastructure for fast-charging through EV revolutions. India’s FAME II (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles) program provides incentives to develop charging infrastructure. The scheme aims to broaden the availability of fast charging among EV consumers. As per reports released by, International Council on Clean Transportation, 2025, in India’s FAME II scheme, the government invested USD 120 million in charging infrastructure, out of which 75% was utilized by March 2024. Also USD 240 million has been reserved for public charging stations in the PM E-DRIVE program to promote ease of use and accessibility for electric vehicle consumers. These policies will assist in supporting EV adoption and the establishment of a sustainable transport network. Other countries like China and Germany are also enacting policies for encouraging fast charging and battery swapping technology, providing subsidies and infrastructure programs.
