So you decided to build a website, but what kind of a website you’ll be building? There are tons of websites about different subjects and the entertainment niche has high potentials for your online project.

In today’s world, there is no lack of entertainment websites because we all need something that can “…entertain us in our boring, lonely, little lives…”.

While there are not only websites that deliver entertainment through written content, like Thoughtnova, but also sites like Spotify or Netflix which provide us with entertainment media (movies and music), there is always room for one more entertainment website.

And the good thing about Thoughtnova, besides the interesting subjects they write about, is that Thoughtnova allows other writers to publish their content, like you or me (everyone can submit an article).

So if you want to join the world of entertainment websites, but are not sure how to build one, keep on reading this step-by-step guide.

STEP 1 – Getting your domain and hosting

The first thing you need to do is get a domain name for your website, so people can write it down more easily. For instance, if you want to build an entertainment website about music you could consider the domain name “Top5Music.com” or something similar that describes your site’s content. After you purchase your domain, don’t forget to redirect it to your hosting so people can find your site when they write it down.

STEP 2 – Installing WordPress on your hosting

If you are still in the process of building your website, then you need to install WordPress. This is not an automatic procedure and needs some technical knowledge, but I assume you want to build an entertainment website because it is easy to make one.

You can hire a WordPress developer to install everything for you, or if you are experienced enough to do it yourself, then download WordPress directly from their website.

STEP 3 – Installing the right templates on your site

Now that you have the basics of your entertainment website done, it is time to install some templates and widgets that will make your site look better. Even though the things that you are selling (in this case entertainment) will make people visit your website, it is important to offer them a nice place where they can stay for some time and read about what you have on offer.

So download or install one of these free entertainment templates I’ve made. On the templates page, you’ll find different templates that are based on the Foundation framework that makes them responsive for mobile devices.

STEP 4 – Selling your entertainment services

Ok, so now you know how to create an entertainment website, but there is still something missing… You need to buy or sell some kind of entertainment! This can be anything from selling tickets to the movies, creating online courses about learning how to play guitar, or even publishing articles for other people.

The possibilities are endless, but remember that for your website to be successful you need to sell “something” (download ebooks, watch videos, etc.). If possible create an account on Patreon, which is like Kickstarter, but instead of investing in new business ideas, you can invest in online entertainers.

And while Patreon is a good option for some kind of entertainment, other alternatives will help you sell it directly on your website. For example, if you wanted to create an alternative to Spotify, then you could add a download button from where visitors can purchase your album for a small fee.

STEP 5 – Promoting your website

Did you think that creating an entertainment website would be easy? Well, it is not, but once you finish your site and start selling things, people will find it… sometimes. But promoting your site can be done in different ways depending on the type of entertainment you are trying to sell or the people you are trying to reach.

If your website is about movies, then it might be a good idea to promote them on Reddit. Because if there is one site that can get you views on YouTube, or likes on Facebook it’s Reddit. And the best part of posting links on Reddit is that they get “buried” in the long list of posts, which means you get more views for less money.

Another great website to build your audience on is IGTV. This is not a new app but it works differently than Facebook or YouTube because people are mainly interested in watching videos instead of reading articles, so if you are selling some kind of music or art this is perfect for you.

And lastly, don’t forget Facebook. Everyone is using it and even if they are not your ideal market you still need to build an audience there because that is where everyone connects nowadays. It might sound counterintuitive but most websites like this end up having more views on Facebook than their site itself, so make sure your page is promoted properly.

Conclusion:

That was everything you needed to know about creating an entertainment website. Remember that the success of your site doesn’t depend on how much money you are ready to invest, but rather on how creative you are with it. To create a great template, put something original on the front page and promote yourself as best as you can, then sit back and relax because the views will come in no time!
