Loving the Holy Prophet (PBUH) – Five Ways to Follow the Sunnah

Holy Prophet PBUH is the epitome of virtue for the entire humanity. He (PBUH) was sent as a light. He was the last prophet of Islam. And this light spreads with compassion for all mankind. Truly, the Sunnah i.e., the way of life of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) is the most perfect roadmap for the entire Ummah till the world ends.

“Say, [O Muhammad], “If you should love Allah, then follow me (Sunnah), [so] Allah will love you and forgive you your sins. And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.”(Holy Quran 3:31)

Knowing What Sunnah Is?

Man is always in a state of learning. No one is perfect to comprehend complete knowledge of whatever surrounds him. Yet, he has the blessing 0f a thorough thought processor in the form of a brain with a conscience to contemplate. He has a roadmap and he is able to explore the reality of things. Being Muslims, we are indeed so much blessed and favored. Allah Almighty himself has devised our path. He has already provided us a guiding light in the form of the life of our beloved Holy Prophet (PBUH). By loving and adhering to his (PBUH) way of life i.e., Sunnah, we are promised eternal success.

Holy Prophet (PBUH), in his last sermon, clearly advised us to follow Holy Quran and His (PBUH) Sunnah. With these two, we can attain the level of a true believer. Besides, we can avoid engulfing the worldly maze. As believers, we remain in the continuous phase of learning and practicing religion. Therefore, it is pertinent for us to seek guidance at every step. And this guidance comes from the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

Let’s learn five ways to follow the Sunnah of the beloved Prophet (PBUH). Let’s register ourselves among those who will not get lost in the alluring worldly haze.

Belief on Allah Almighty’s Supremacy

When a person suffers an unfortunate situation, his/her reaction to that identifies his/her belief. We, as Muslims, are well aware that Holy Prophet (PBUH) suffered extreme hardships. It all started when Allah Almighty assigned him (PBUH) the task of forwarding Allah’s message to His creation. Yet, all those struggles and hardships did not succeed in wavering Holy Prophet (PBUH)’s belief on Allah. Rather than losing hope, He (PBUH) gained immense strength from every trial. He (PBUH) remained steadfast. He (PBUH) knew and reflected that The Supreme Creator will guide and protect him against every hardship.

Being among Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) Ummah, we should keep following his (PBUH)’s Sunnah. We should remain steadfast. Without wavering, we should carry forward our belief on Allah Almighty’s Oneness. We must reflect that “Belief on Allah Almighty’s Supremacy” is among the foremost steps towards following the Sunnah.

Love the Holy Prophet (PBUH) beyond Anything Else

Hazrat Anas ibn Malik (Radi Allahu Anho) reported: The Messenger of Allah, (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “None of you have faith until I am more beloved to him than his children, his father, and all of the people.”

The love of our beloved Holy Prophet (PBUH) is a sign of faith. When a Muslim truly loves Prophet (PBUH), his every single gesture automatically reflects the same. He strives to follow Holy Prophet (PBUH) in every matter; its human psychology to follow the footsteps of whom he loves.

Nurture a human mind with a love of the Prophet (PBUH) above everything else, and it will make every possible effort to avoid anything going against his (PBUH) teachings. He tries to do everything to follow Holy Prophet (PBUH). His love for the ‘Most Beloved Creation of Allah Almighty’ reflects through both his actions and words. Hazrat Ayesha (Radi Allahu Anha) was asked by Sahabah (Radi Allahu Anham Ajmaeen) about the character of the Holy Prophet (PBUH). She succinctly yet comprehensively replied: “His character was the Quran.”(Sahih Muslim)

The aforementioned explanation of the Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) character is simply beautiful. It very well explains the importance of nurturing the love for the Quran to follow Sunnah. “There is certainly a good exemplar for you in the Apostle of Allah (PBUH).” (Holy Quran 33:21)

Holy Prophet (PBUH) was sent as a guide for all mankind. Holy Prophet (PBUH) exemplified best moral character. Indeed, the life of the Prophet (PBUH) is a complete role model. It teaches that a husband can be the best supporter of his wife. We witness a ruler as just, a trader as Sadiq and Ameen, and a warrior as a compassionate being. Allah Almighty has guided His believers to follow the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) in every capacity they are. He Almighty has perfected his (PBUH) example for all mankind. From a leader to a teacher, all the people working in different spheres of life have Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) as the perfect most personification.
