If you have found that your closet is not functioning quite s well as it could be, renovating it could help. However, before you put up new shelves and rails there are some things you can do.

Get Rid of the Clutter

Getting rid of the clutter can make a huge difference. There is no point in you renovating your closet before you have organized everything. Take a look at everything you have and clear out the things you no longer like or wear. Place your clothes into different piles so you know what you’re donating and what you’re keeping.

You may be able to get some clothes altered so you can wear them once more. If you can’t, see if anyone wants them before you donate them. Chances are, a friend or family member may be happy to take your unwanted items off your hands.

Re-evaluate Your Closet

Before you consider renovating your closet, take another look at it while it’s empty. Do you really need new shelves etc, or does it just need decorating? If your closet is still in good shape, it may just need a new coat of paint and even some new flooring. You may also want to reconsider what you keep in your closet. Some clothes could be stored elsewhere if you have the space. However, if you’re still not convinced, it may be time to renovate it.

Install Some Drawers

Extra space to hang your clothes may not be what you need. Adding some home additions such as drawers can make a huge difference. Small drawers for your shoes or smaller clothes can make a closet seem a lot tidier. Remember that the top of your new drawers can also be used for storage. Just make sure that this area does not become cluttered.

Drawers don’t just have to be installed at the bottom of your closet. You could also have a few drawers in the corner of the closet or above your close rail. The choice is yours.

Installing Clothes Rails

When it comes to installing clothes rails you need to make sure you leave enough space for your clothes to hang down. It would be a shame if you installed some rails and your clothes did not have enough space. Measure twice so you know how much space you have. Install a rail and hang some clothes on it. If there is enough space for you to add another rail underneath, do. If there isn’t you may need to have a rethink.

Renovating your closet can ensure you have enough space for all of your clothes, shoes, and accessories. Take your time when you are planning where everything will go. You m ay want to consider making sure that you have a little more space than you currently need. The extra space can be ideal when and if you choose to buy more clothes.

With a bit of work, you too could have a newly renovated closet that works well for you.
