HOW TO WASH A BODY PILLOW SIMPLIFIED

Last Updated on August 1, 2022 by

Your body pillow accumulates some dirt, stain and sweat along the line and you need to make it clean. You should know how to wash a body pillow in order to keep yours strong and clean.

If you want to know, washing a body pillow is not that simple as you may have thought. Are you scared? Don’t be. What I am just saying cleaning your body pillow is more than just dropping it into a washer and then drying. While some can be washed that way and they will still be in good condition, others can be damaged when washed with a machine.

So then, what is the best way on how to wash a body pillow? This article will guide you on how to do wash different types of body pillows in a way that they will still retain their shape and durability.

How to Wash a Body Pillow

A body pillow can be washed in three ways: machine washing, hand washing and spot cleaning.

1. Machine Washing

Even though it is very convenient to use a washer to clean your body pillow, like I earlier mentioned, not all pillows can be washed that way. Those that can be done that way include those that are made of down, down-alternative and cotton materials.

So, how do you go about machine washing?

I. Wash the body pillow alone

Body pillows are large and will fill the space of the washing machine. So, washing your body pillow with other clothing materials won’t give enough space for the pillow to be cleaned well and the pillow may as well lose its shape.

Low heat is okay when washing your pillow. If you want to use hot heat( maybe you want to be sure all bacteria are gone), check the care instructions to be sure. You don’t want to ruin the shape of your pillow.

2. Use Mild Detergent

Avoid using harsh cleaning materials like bleach or chlorine when washing your pillow. Instead, use Mild detergents.

3. Air dry or tumble dry on low heat.

4. Once your body pillow is dry, hand-fluff it to prevent lumps. This helps to extend its lifespan. You can massage, knead or swat the body pillow against your mattress to fluff it.

2. Hand washing

If your body pillow is too big or fragile to wash in a washing machine, then you should hand wash it. The steps are simple:

I. Fill a large bucket or bathtub with cold, soapy water.

II. Immerse your body pillow into the water and let it soak well. When it is well, gently wash and massage the soapy water into the pillow till it is clean.

III. Rinse it with water thoroughly till all detergent residues are gone.

IV. Air dry

3. Spot cleaning

Spot cleaning is done when there are little stains on your body pillow and you want to get them off immediately. Here, you don’t need to wash the whole pillow. Just get a damp cloth and a bucket of soapy water and gently scrub off the stains. Pat the area dry after the stains are gone and air-dry it.

Conclusion

Now that you have been put through how to wash a body pillow, I hope you will get your body pillow cleaned soon. Cheers!
