You have the lease signed, the curriculum mapped out, and a renovation contractor lined up. The classrooms are drawn on a floor plan, the aircon units are spec’d, and someone has already picked the paint colours. Somewhere in the back of your mind, you know the electrical side needs sorting out – but it feels straightforward. A tuition centre is just classrooms, right? Lights, aircon, a few power points for projectors. How complicated could it be? 

This is where most tuition centre operators in Singapore get caught off guard. What looks like a simple commercial fit-out on paper turns into something considerably more demanding once you add up everything that needs to run simultaneously. And the problems don’t usually surface during renovation. They surface on opening week, when every room is occupied and every device is plugged in at the same time. 

The Load That Nobody Calculates Properly 

The core issue is compounding demand. A single classroom is not electrically intensive on its own. But a tuition centre is not one classroom – it is a collection of spaces that all peak at the same time. Every classroom runs its own air conditioning. Every classroom has overhead lighting. Most have a projector or interactive display, a desktop or laptop for the teacher, and a growing number have tablets or devices for students.
