Growing a Small Business

Last Updated on February 21, 2024 by Nasir Hanif

There’s a lot that goes into growing a small business, from facilitating effective marketing campaigns to scaling production and workforce and more. However, as overwhelming as it may seem, it can be done.

Looking for a few pointers? Then look no further. Here are 4 basic tips for growing a small business.

1. Get Referrals

When you’re first getting customers for your business, it can be a grind. However, the hope is that, as you please more and more customers, you’ll have more and more customers coming to you instead of the other way around. After a while, you’ll have a steady flow of business, even without active marketing.

This often happens organically. However, you can give it a little push by asking each of your new customers for referrals. See if they have anyone else who would be interested in your services, and then set out to impress.

2. Target Different Demographics

Let’s say you sell jewelry. At the present time, your target demographic is women above the age of, say, 15. While this is clearly the best market to target, it’s not the only market that might be interested in jewelry. You could also consider targeting boyfriends and husbands, for instance, as they might have an interest in buying jewelry for their girlfriends and wives.

By targeting a different demographic like this, you open yourself up to a bevy of additional customers. This is key to growing a company.

3. Keep in Touch With Past Customers

If you’re going to grow your business, you can’t just keep adding new customers. You need to get repeat business out of past customers. This helps to build brand loyalty, thus creating a stronger customer base in the long run.

Now, you might be wondering: how do you keep in touch with past customers? Well, social media helps. Other options include email marketing and physical mailers.

4. Step Up Your Marketing Game

Another way to grow your business is to expand on your marketing. You don’t necessarily need to increase the scope of your marketing. You might just have to change the style of marketing that you’re utilizing.

For instance, maybe you could publish informational business videos on Facebook. You could even add professional voice overs

Or, you could engage in SEO. This could help you to gain more traction through search engines.

Guerilla marketing is an option as well. This involves things like posting flyers to telephone poles and writing ad copy on the ground with chalk. It’s free but potentially effective.

You could also try traditional marketing, like business commercials, radio adverts, and the like.

Growing a Small Business Is Easier Than It Seems
